neurotransmitter

Any chemical that is released from an axon terminal of one neuron which attaches to a dendritic receptor site of another neuron and increases or decreases the chance of a wave of depolarization in the second neuron. Neurotransmitters include acetylcholine, dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, GABA, and glutamate.
