item analysis

n. A process of evaluating the psychometric characteristics of a set of items, usually in order to select items for inclusion in a scale but also used to evaluate items on existing tests or scales. Typical methods of item analysis are internal consistency in attitude scales and correlation with external criteria in personality or ability scales.
