interdependent self-construal
n. A self-image in which one's relationships with others define the self. This is opposed to an independent self-image, in which the individual with unique dispositions and history is emphasized. This is often considered one of the chief cultural differences between people from Asian and European-American cultures, although this difference is quite variable among cultures of each of the continents.
