obesity

n. A state of having a significant excess of adipose or fatty tissue. No exact division between being mildly overweight and being obese is generally accepted, but having 30% or more of body weight composed of fat would certainly be obese. Obesity is considered attractive and desirable in some cultures and repulsive in others. Obesity is correlated with numerous
health problems, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, gallstones, and some forms of cancer. Most obesity is the result of adopting a lifestyle which includes eating too much and exercising too little. Some obesity is due to organic problems such as hypothyroidism or damage to the amygdala, temporal lobe, or ventromedial nucleus of the hypothalamus.
