Whitten effect
n. The synchronization of the estrus cycle of females living in a group which typically occurs only when a male is present or nearby and is supposed to be due to pheromones. This effect has been observed in humans, mice, rats, goats, hamsters, cows, sheep, and several other mammalian species. Also called the male mouse effect.
