visual dominance

n. 1. The tendency of the image from one eye to be seen in preference to the image from the other eye. 2. The tendency to perceive the world as seen, rather than as heard, felt, smelled, or tasted when the information of the senses is in conflict. Thus, if an object appears to touch the skin in one location but actually touches it a half-inch from where it is seen as touching, the person will report the touch at the point which is seen rather than at the point of actual touch. Similarly, in a theater the sound appears to come from the movie screen rather than from the location of hidden speakers.
