n. A family of experimental tasks in which a subject is required to select a test stimulus which is the same as a sample stimulus from among other stimuli. Variations have been introduced in the timing of the presentation of the stimuli, the number, and the type of both test and alternative stimuli in order to test a variety of hypotheses about discrimination and memory.
