ovary

n. Either of the two female reproductive organs which produce ova, or egg cells, as well as estrogen and progesterone hormones. In humans, they are ovate, being a little more than 1 inch long and 0.75 inch in diameter, and are located at the ends of the fallopian tubes, which connect them with the uterus. Approximately every 4 weeks a woman of breeding age produces one or rarely two ova at the ends of the fallopian tubes, where they may or may not be fertilized and move into the uterus.
