Meissner's corpuscle

n. An ovate sense receptor concentrated in the skin of the genitals, fingertips, lips, nipples, palms, and soles of the feet, which are sensitive to pressure on the skin. It is constituted by a single, unmyelinated nerve cell which runs through the center of laminated structural cells surrounded by a capsule of connective tissue. Also called a tactile corpuscle and Wagner-Meissner's corpuscle.
