limbic system

n. A ring-shaped area of the brain around the brainstem involved in emotion, memory, learning, and autonomic control of the body. There is no widely accepted definition of the boundaries of the limbic system, but definitions usually include the hippocampus, cingulate gyrus, fornicate gyrus, amygdala, hypothalamus, mammillary bodies, nucleus accumbens, orbitofrontal cortex, parahippocampal gyrus, and septum.
