latah syndrome

n. A disorder characterized by hypersensitivity to sudden fright, often accompanied by command obedience, dissociation or trance, echolalia, or echopraxia. This is most common in middle-aged women in Malaysia and Indonesia but has been found throughout the world. Also called amurakh, baah-ji, bah tschi, bah-tsi, ikota, imu, irkunii, mali-mali, menkeiti, myracgit, olan, and silok.
