independent samples t test

n. A statistical procedure in which the ratio of variance within two different groups of subjects is compared with the between-group variance so as to determine the likelihood that the two groups are from the same population. The formula for groups 1 and 2 is

\(t=\frac{\text{Mean1-Mean2}}{\sqrt{\frac{(N1-1) \times Variance1+(N2-1) \times Variance2}{N1+N2-2}} \times (\frac{1}{N1}+\frac{1}{N2})}\)

where N=number of scores in a group.
