IE Scale

n. 1. The Introversion-Extroversion Scale on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, which attempts to embody Carl Jung's theory that people differ in their basic attitude toward life, some finding meaning and purpose in the internal world of feelings and ideas and some in the external world of people and things. 2. Any scale with introversion and extroversion as polar opposites such as the Eysenck Personality Inventory, which measures introversion and extroversion as dimensions of the reactivity of the individual to the environment, or the NEO Personality Inventory, which measures them as dimensions of behavioral activity and expressivity and social involvement.
