hearing

n. The auditory sense in which knowledge of the environment is inferred from changes in the air pressure level at the ears. The human capacity to detect sound is generally between the wavelengths from about 15-20 cycles per second up to about 20,000 cycles per second. Some animals such as bats can hear much higher frequencies, and others, such as whales, can hear lower frequencies. Also called audition.
