Graduate Record Examinations

n. (GREs) Any of several tests designed to predict potential for success in graduate school. The GRE is a general aptitude test currently consisting of two essay tests and numerous multiple-choice items which produce scores on critical thinking, analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning. There are also eight multiple-choice subject examinations in the areas of biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, literature in English, mathematics, physics, and psychology.
