n. The hypothesized portion of ability in any specific task that is associated or correlated with most or all other intellectual tasks. Following the theories of Francis Galton, Robert Spearman hypothesized that the ability to accomplish all tasks is composed of task- specific abilities, which he designated as 5, plus a general ability, which he designated g for "general ability."
