fixation
n. 1. In visual perception, the process of becoming focused on a particular thing or the thing on which vision is focused. 2. An abnormal preoccupation with a particular idea, desire, or object of desire. 3. In psychoanalysis, a continuation of an early mode of satisfaction in later life, as in the persistence of oral or anal satisfactions in adult life.
