filial piety

n. Love and respect for one's parents and ancestors; the code of behavior which derives from it was considered the first virtue in Chinese culture and remains important in most Asian societies. It includes both an inner personal state and external behavior, including caring for parents, being obedient and courteous to them, producing a male heir, concealing parents' mistakes, mourning their sickness and death, and making sacrifices to their spirits after they die.
