ego identity

n. 1. A comprehensive view of the self including one's place in the universe, cultural and social roles including sexual roles, standing in the social hierarchy, ideals, and the meaning of life, which is the outcome of the fifth stage of epigenetic development in Erikson's development cycle. 2. In psychoanalysis, a part of the superego which is a combination of infantile narcissism and ideals borrowed from the parents, which constitutes the superego's goal for the ego.
