death anxiety
n. Generally defined, death anxiety is fear of death; it is often concerned with one’s own death but can include a more generalized fear. Researchers Conte, Bakur-Weiner, and Putchik have developed a useful tool for assessing death anxiety (the Death Anxiety Questionnaire) and explaining the concept in greater depth. Through their and others' research, death anxiety can be separated into four different factors: fear of the unknown, fear of suffering, fear of loneliness, and fear of personal extinction.
