California Psychological Inventory
n. (CPI) A self-report personality inventory scaled for folk concepts of personality and used to predict future social, educational, and vocational behavior and achievement. The CPI has 20 measures of positive attributes for categories of (a) interpersonal dispositions such as self-assurance and independence, (b) prosocial values and social compliance, (c) achievement potentials, and (d) role-enactment characteristics. In addition, three higher-order vector scales define four ways of living or lifestyles. The CPI has been widely used in cross-cultural research, training for leadership, and personnel psychology.
