n. Any perception in the sense of hearing which is not in accord with the physical stimuli. As instances, a hoot from a hidden speaker will be perceived as being from a stuffed owl located some distance away from the speaker, or stereophonic sound systems can be used to create an illusion of movement by varying the loudness and timing of the sounds from the two speakers.
