anal character

n. In psychoanalysis, a personality formed around the early or later part of the anal stage and retaining the characteristics of that period. An anal expulsive character is formed around pleasure in the expulsion of bowel movements and is marked by untidiness, generosity, easygoing attitude, and resistance to authority. An anal retentive character is marked by excessive cleanliness and need for order, overemphasis of rule following, stinginess, and petulance.
