X chromosome

n. A female sex chromosome, one copy of which is present in all the cells of a male's body and two copies of which are present in all cells in a female's body. It gets its name for its shape, which roughly approximates the letter \(X\), as opposed to the male sex chromosome, which roughly resembles the letter \(Y\).
