The part of the electromagnetic spectrum between 0.5 nanometer and about 390–400 nanometers which cannot be seen by the human eye but can be seen by some butterflies, fish, bumblebees, and other organisms. This is the radiation in sunlight that causes both suntan and sometimes skin cancer and is mostly absorbed by glass and plastic.
