serotonin reuptake inhibitor
n. Any of a family of drugs which selectively block several kinds of serotonin reuptake mechanisms, causing a rise in the levels of serotonin floating in the synaptic clefts at these sites. They are used as anxiolytics and antidepressants and include Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, Lexapro, Luvox, Paxil, and Dapoxetine.
