parallel processing

n. 1. Any computer setup in which there are two or more processors which work independently and simultaneously on different aspects of the same data analysis. 2. In models of human mental functioning, it is any model which assumes that there are multiple simultaneous processes occurring which would account for the human capacity to carry on different cognitive functions at the same time.
