nondirective therapy
n. An approach to psychotherapy developed by Carl Rogers in which it is assumed that clients have inherent tendencies and capacities to grow and develop and will do so if freed of social judgment. And so the therapist provides a supportive environment and helps the client notice and clarify the matters the client raises without judging the client or attempting to fit his or her experience into a set of preconceptions. Also called client-centered therapy.
