microsleep
n. A very brief period of sleep in a person who appears to be awake, usually lasting from 1 to about 30 seconds. This tends to occur during periods of fatigue when the person is attempting to perform boring or monotonous tasks such as driving a car or working as a guard and is exacerbated by alcohol and other depressant drugs.
