n. Any scale which attempts to measure gender roles. 1. The fifth scale on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), which measures the degree to which people resemble homosexual male self-descriptions. 2. The Mf Scale on the California Psychological Inventory, in which people are assessed as to the degree to which they resemble the self-descriptions of men and women. 3. The Bem Sex Role Inventory, which measures masculinity and femininity as independent dimensions with the possibility of being high or low on both rather than polar opposites.
