mandala
n. 1. Any symmetrical geometric figure usually including a circle or square. 2. In Jungian psychology, an archetype that was a representation of the unconscious with polarities balanced across an empty center which was the self. 3. In Buddhism, there are mandalas which represent experience with a point of perception in the middle and a representation of experience or energies around it. 4. In Hinduism, there are also many mandalas, which are representations of completion with a square often representing the four directions and a figure known in European culture as the star of David representing the universal interplay of male and female energies.
