n. A form of discrimination learning in which subjects must learn a general approach to problems in order to be successful. As an example, in a rat maze problem the rat may have to learn that red crosses and blue circles are rewarded and no other combination is rewarded. Acquiring the learning set allows faster and more accurate discriminations in the future. Also called learning set.
