lambda statistic

n. A measure of association between a categorical dependent variable (DV)and an independent variable (IV) treated as categorical which gives the percentage reduction in error in using the independent variable to predict the dependent variable.

\(\lambda=\frac{(SumFi-Fd)}{total-Fd}\)

where \(Fi\) = the largest cell frequency within each category of the IV, \(Fd\) = largest marginal value of DV, and \(total\) = total number of observations of the DV. Also called Goodman- Kruskal lambda.
