Jacobson's progressive relaxation
n. A method of relaxation in which the subject is instructed to go through the body, focusing on one body area at a time and contracting and then relaxing the muscles in that area. Sometimes the procedure is used just to focus and relax without first tensing the muscle groups. This method is widely used in behavior modification, to reduce blood pressure and anxiety.
