ipsative

adj. Of or referring to the self. In personology, for example, ipsative studies compare the relative strength of different motivations within the person without reference to other persons. In ipsative testing the elements of a test are arranged so a person is forced to choose between them, and raising one score necessarily lowers another score, as in the Edwards Personal Preference Survey.
