intoxication

n. Transient alterations in mental and physiological functioning due to the presence of alcohol, other drugs, or chemicals. The particular form of function alteration depends on the nature of the intoxicant. Typical intoxicants include depressants such as alcohol, painkillers, sleeping pills, and anxiolytic drugs; stimulants such as amphetamines, cocaine, and caffeine; and hallucinogens such as LSD, marijuana, ecstasy, MDA, mescaline, and psilocybin.
