intentionality

n. 1. A characteristic of a person’s actions involving motivation in the form of goals, desires or impulses, selection of means to fulfill those motivations, and a conscious desire for a future state. 2. The property of mental experiences that they must have an object. Thus one cannot hear without hearing a sound, believe without a statement of or proposition of belief, or experience an emotion without a situation about which to feel the emotion.
