intelligence

n. A set of abilities to adapt better to the environment through experience. The nature of these abilities is much debated in psychology. Most intelligence tests include verbal abilities, quantitative reasoning, memory capacity, and problem solving. Sternberg's theory supposes that there are three kinds of intelligence: analytical intelligence, which helps one do well with academic issues; a creative aspect, which is related to dealing with novelty and inductive reasoning; and a practical aspect, which is related to adapting to the demands of everyday life.
