insulin

n. A hormone synthesized in the pancreas which controls blood sugar level by making it easier for sugar molecules to pass through cell membranes. Chronically insufficient insulin level is called diabetes； it results in excretion of sugar in the urine. High elevations of insulin level cause low blood sugar level (hypoglycemia) and can cause fatigue, coma, convulsions, and death.
