histogram

n. A graphical display of a frequency table in which the unit intervals are mapped on the x-axis and the number of scores in each interval is represented on the x-axis. The purpose of a histogram is to show what proportion of data falls into each interval; all intervals are disjointed, nonoverlapping, adjacent categories (also called bins). The width and number of bins will influence the shape and interpretation of a histogram.
