n. 1. A complete language independent of spoken language such as American Sign Language. 2. Communication via body movements understood by other members of a species in nonhuman animals. 3. A nonverbal form of communication based on culturally meaningful gestures which can accompany, modify, and amplify a spoken language or be used in place of the spoken language.
