exploratory factor analysis
n. A set of analytic techniques applied to a correlation or covariance matrix seeking to discover its internal structure of relatedness. Vectors called factors are selected, pass through the densest areas in multidimensional space, and are then rotated, usually to select the ones which collectively account for the most covariance and are most uncorrelated with one another.
