ego ideal
n. 1. In psychoanalysis the part of the superego which was the ideal self derived from parental ideals adopted by the individual and which serves as a comparison for the actual ego. 2. In Murray's personology, the conscious ideals with which a person compares himself/ herself and ambitions toward which he/she strives which are separate from the largely unconscious superego.
