direct speech acts
n. Utterances in which the meaning is contained in the structure of the utterance as in "There is a woman in your bed" or "May I have a glass of water?" as opposed to indirect speech acts in which meaning is implied such as "Did you know there was a woman in your bed?" or "It has been a long time since I have had a drink."
