delusion of reference

n. A fixed false belief where the individual believes that he or she is in some way the object of special attention. For example, someone with a delusion of reference might believe the evening news anchor is speaking directly to him or her or that specific world events have been contrived as a sort of message to him or her. As with all delusions, there is no amount of conflicting evidence that will diminish the individual's false belief.
