delusion of persecution
n. A fixed false belief where the individual believes that he or she is in some way being singled out and is the subject of maltreatment or harassment. These beliefs can be nonbizarre (e.g., believing that the authorities are surveying your every move and intentionally making life more difficult for you) or bizarre (e.g., believing that insects are conspiring to attack you at every turn). As with all delusions, there is no amount of conflicting evidence that will diminish the individual's false belief.
