construct validity

n. The degree to which a test embodies a theory or abstract idea. This is evaluated by comparison of the test to the theory and is usually nonempirical. Some theorists suppose that unidimensionality in a factor analysis of a set of items whose content is all on the same topic is a form of construct validity.
