constant stimuli method
n. A psychophysical procedure for determining both difference and absolute thresholds. In difference thresholds a randomly ordered set of stimuli are presented and are compared to a standard stimulus, with the threshold calculated as the smallest difference that can be detected 50% of the time. In determining absolute thresholds, weak stimuli are presented in random order and the threshold is the intensity level whose presence can be detected 50% of the time.
