conformity

n. The tendency to make one’s attitudes, actions, opinions, and perceptions match those of another person, group of people, or belief system. Conformity may be mere compliance, in which an individual acts in accord with a group without accepting the attitudes of the group, or conversion, in which the person adopts the beliefs as well as going along or, in extreme cases, when the individual abandons personal point of view in favor of groupthink.
