commissurotomy

n. Incision of a body commissure. Commissurotomy of the corpus callosum (calloso- tomy) results in the so-called split-brain syndrome (the right and left hemispheres become disconnected one from the other). Callosotomy was used for treating some refractory types of epilepsy, but also to treat certain psychiatric disorders.
